White hemlocks, yellow violets, and hyacinths blue:

Three blossoms, three colors that I will give to you,

White moonlight, yellow lamplight, and the green light of leaves,

And the morning, and the evening, and a heart that never grieves.

In a woodland, on a hilltop, between two tall trees,

Are joys and bright wonders and dark mysteries,

And a far golden valley like a bowl full of mist,

And a lady whose red lips have never been kissed.

In the forest are violets in green sunny glades,

And burdocks and hemlocks in dark gloomy shades:

White hemlocks, yellow violets, and hyacinths blue,

Three blossoms, three colors that I will give to you.

By moonlight, by lamplight I’ll let down my hair,

We’ll sit by the fire and I’ll sing to you there.

My song and my longing will never end,

And I’ll be your lover if you will be my friend.
