Mass of the Archangel
Maranatha Mass
Shirley’s
music for the Proper of the Mass is in two versions (really two separate
Masses), Mass of the Archangel and Maranatha Mass. Each was named
for her previously written music on which she based the Gloria. That of Mass
of the Archangel is based on a litany in Gaelic to our Lord as King of
Angels, and that of Maranatha Mass is based on the song “Maranatha!”
which appears in Angel-Chief of Many Names.
The
music is in lead-sheet form with words, melodies, and chord symbols; it was
written for the harp but may be played on any instrument. Each Mass includes:
Glory to God; Gospel Acclamation (Alleluia); Holy; Memorial Acclamations A, B,
C, and D; Great Amen; and Lamb of God.
Both
these Masses may be printed free on this website, or we will print and send
them in a loose-leaf binder (price: $20) or email you a free copy in Coda Music
Notation format, which can be read with the Coda Music Viewer, or Adobe Acrobat
format, which can be read with the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Both forms print very
well, and the Coda Music Notation music can also be heard.
To
request a free copy in Coda Music Notation form, please email music@valkyriepub.com.
The
words of parts of the Proper of the Mass have been changed, at least in the
United States. So far we have updated the lyrics to the following pieces, which
are also now arranged for the harp:
Mass of the Archangel, Lamb
of God
MIDI (The grace notes at the
beginning should be played as normal quarter-note tuplets before the first
vocal note.)
